Evangelion: Cassidy Cut is a mostly unnecessary, albeit existing recut of Neon Genesis Evangelion. This project recuts the original 26 anime episodes, The End of Evangelion, and very sparse elements of the Rebuild of Evangelion films into 22 "chapters". As ever, this project is not intended to replace the original Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, and furthermore should not serve as a viewer's first experience of the original story.

Misato takes Shinji to live with her in her apartment. As Shinji starts attending his new school in Tokyo-3, he finds himself at odds with a fellow classmate. When a new Angel appears, Shinji must once again pilot Eva-01 to confront the threat.
Overwhelmed by the stress of being an Eva pilot, Shinji runs away. After wandering through Tokyo-3 for several days, he must decide whether to quit or stay in his new home.
With Evangelion Unit-00 finally repaired, Shinji attempts to get to know its pilot, Rei Ayanami, better. Meanwhile, Tokyo-3 faces a new threat as a powerful, floating monolith Angel attacks.
Misato takes Shinji, Toji, and Kensuke to a UN naval convoy, transporting Evangelion Unit-02 and its German pilot, Asuka Langley Soryu, to Japan.
As Asuka settles into Japan, a new Angel attacks, capable of splitting into two identical copies. After Eva-01 and Eva-02 are defeated in their initial battle, Asuka and Shinji must learn to synchronize their movements in combat to defeat the Angel.
The pilots are disheartened to learn they can't go on their class trip to Okinawa due to the need to remain in Tokyo-3 on standby for potential Angel attacks. Meanwhile, a new Angel is discovered in its embryonic developmental stage deep within the volcano of Mt. Asama.
When Tokyo-3 loses all power, Nerv personnel are forced to manually launch the Evas when an Angel appears amidst the blackout. Meanwhile, the Eva pilots are locked out of Nerv headquarters.

Rei and Shinji undergo inter-compatibility testing with their Evangelions, leading to Eva-00 going berserk once more. Shinji visits his mother’s grave with his father, while Misato reflects on her past romance with Kaji.
A bizarre spherical Angel absorbs Shinji and Eva-01. As Nerv searches for a way to destroy the Angel, Shinji remains trapped inside the entry plug, contemplating his role as a pilot and his relationships with those around him.
After the Fourth Children is selected, Evangelion Unit-03 is transported from the United States to Japan
The activation of Eva-03 goes disastrously wrong when an Angel seizes control of the unit. Shinji, grappling with the moral dilemma of killing the pilot inside, refuses to pilot Eva-01.
After Eva-01 goes berserk, Shinji achieves an unprecedented 400% synchronization rate, resulting in his physical form being absorbed into the Eva.
Kidnapped and interrogated by Seele, Fuyutsuki recounts the events that followed the Second Impact and led to the foundation of Nerv and creation of the Evas.
After her defeat by the Fourteenth Angel, Asuka's synchronization rate plummets. Distancing herself from her peers, she is forced to relive her traumatic past during an encounter with the Fifteenth Angel.
Rei and Shinji are dispatched to fight it the Sixteenth Angel, however its assimilation powers quickly overwhelm the Eva pilots. Meanwhile, Asuka falls into a deep depression, unable to pilot Eva-02.
A crestfallen Shinji meets Kaworu Nagisa, the replacement pilot for Eva-02, and they quickly form a close friendship. However, Kaworu's sudden arrival and remarkable synchronization rate raise Misato's suspicions.
